Selling Tips

Now that you are registered completely as an auctioneer, we thought we would share some tips that have helped others when selling their items online.

  1. BEFORE listing items make sure you have created the auction & assigned your consignor(s) to that auction so you will have a category created for just that auction under your unique business name category under auctioneers. ALSO, while you can list items you CANNOT create reports for the auction unless it is defined as an auction and so there will be no documentation to supply your consignors after the sale is completed.
  2. When photographing/cataloging your items make sure your catalog number shows clearly in the photos or at the very least in the first one.
  3. Measure the furniture and have the dimensions in the description. It helps people know if it will fit in their house and their vehicle for removal.
  4. Photos, photos, lots of photos, lots of well lit focused photos. After all you get 10 free ones with every listing.
  5. Mention all problems, even the little ones with items for a brutally accurate description.
  6. In the description title of the item mention the catalog/lot number and town, state where it is located.
  7. IF you are offering shipping mention it in the description and the amount it will cost. (you can add the charges when creating the invoice for the bidder)
  8. IF you are charging a Buyer's Premium, mention it in the description in case people have over looked that fact.
  9. Use the prefilled fields/global settings found under members area to fill in details about the items that you will have common to all items, for ex: shipping, terms of sale....etc
  10. Make sure you have a paypal account.
  11. Put in your listing the exact date and time that items will need to be picked up.
  12. Run the auction for as long as you want whether it's for 1 day or a month or longer. It costs nothing extra to do so.
  13. Advertise the sale just like you would do a live auction. BUT your newspaper adds can be much smaller since you want people to go online and see the sale instead of listing all the items up for sale in print.
  14. Stagger the ending times of items in an auction so people have time to react if outbid. Even with the anti-sniping feature it helps the bidders who are thinking about bidding but wait until the last day of the sale to do so.
